Nighthawks Fall 3-0 in Match Up Against Central Washington

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The NNU volleyball team made the trip to Ellensburg, Washington this weekend to compete against the Central Washington Wildcats on Saturday the 27th. In a close three set game the Nighthawks fell to Wildcats: 21-25, 20-25, 24-26.

The Nighthawks built an early lead in set one, highlighted by an Abby Black kill that put NNU up 8-5. The Wildcats answered, tying the score at 10-10 before stretching the lead to 20-11 behind three blocks and four kills. The Nighthawks fought back, fueled by two kills from Lily Kinloch, but CWU closed out the set 25-21.

Set two was a back-and-forth battle, with neither team pulling ahead by more than three points. The score was tied at 9-9 and remained tight until the final stretch, when the Wildcats sealed the set with two kills and a block to earn the 25-20 win.

Looking to respond in the third set, the Nighthawks came out strong, taking an 8-3 lead with seven of those points coming from kills—three of them by Abby Black. The Wildcats clawed back to stay within reach and eventually took their first lead at 21-20. A service ace by Kayci Spray briefly put NNU back on top, but CWU rallied once more to secure the 26-24 victory and the sweep.

Abby Black led the Nighthawks with 15 kills and Kayci Spray had 16 digs leading the NNU defense.

The Nighthawks will travel to Seattle next week to face off against Seattle Pacific University on October 2nd. The game is scheduled for 7:00 PM PT in the Royal Brougham Pavilion.
