FRISCO, Texas – Northwest Nazarene led by two in the second half, but a late flurry of goals from Midwestern State – Texas downed the Nighthawks by a final score of 4-2.
NNU falls to 3-2-1 on the year.
Derek Johnson put the Nighthawks in front in the 23
rd minute off an assist from
Rylan McPherson. The first half saw only four shots between the two teams, and the 1-0 lead would hold until after the break.
In the 52
nd minute, NNU was awarded a penalty kick.
Abdullahi Sharif stepped up and converted from the spot for the second time this season to put the Nighthawks up 2-0.
The Mustangs were able to finally get on the board in the 56
th minute, and followed that up with another score just 37 seconds later. MSU Texas took the lead with a goal in the 63
rd, and would add one more for insurance in the 88
th. Parker Plaxco scored all four goals for the Mustangs.
NNU will look to bounce back on Saturday, as they will remain in Frisco to take on No. 25 St. Mary's at 2:30 p.m. Central.
