DALLAS - A couple of days after earning GNAC Player of the Week honors, Northwest Nazarene baseball's
Nin Burns II has now collected the prestigious honor of NCBWA National Hitter of the Week for his performance against Saint Martin's from April 24-26.
In a 5-0 week against the Saints, Nin was a terror at the plate as he hit .611 with a .708 on-base percentage and 1.667 slugging percentage. The outfielder had 11 hits in 18 at-bats, including three doubles, two triples, and four home runs as nine of the 11 were for extra bases. He scored 13 runs, drove in 10 runs, walked five times and had two stolen bases. He homered in four of the five games, and in the only game without a homer he was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple. He scored three times each in four of the five games and drove in multiple runs in 3 of 5.
Burns also picked up NCBWA West Region Player of the Week recognition on Tuesday to advance to the national ballot, and beat out the seven candidates from the other regions for this national honor. He is the first NNU player to earn national weekly honors this season, and the third Nighthawk to be named a regional Player of the Week, joining
Bryan Rojas and
Cole Calnon.
Burns II and the Nighthawks have a bye this weekend during the last week of the regular season, and will now set their sights on the GNAC Championships as the top seed. The tournament will take place May 8-9 in Ellensburg, Washington.
