Nighthawks Sweep Saints and Secure GNAC Regular Season Championship

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene completed their series sweep of Saint Martin's on April 26th, taking game three with a 10-2 victory and game four with an 11-1 win. With the series sweep, the Nighthawks secured the GNAC regular season championship and will head into the GNAC tournament as the No. 1 seed.

Game One

After a scoreless top of the first, the Nighthawks wasted no time getting on the board. A two-run homer by Kaleb Karpstein put NNU up, helping them build an early momentum.

NNU added one more in the second when Casey Wayne drove in a run with a single. In the fourth, the Nighthawks blew the game open. Cole Calnon launched a two-run home run, followed by an RBI triple from Wayne, a sac fly by Jason Bell, and a solo shot from Nin Burns II, extending the lead to 7–0.

Saint Martin's tried to rally late, scoring one run in the seventh on an RBI single from Staszkow and another in the eighth on a solo home run by Hoag. But NNU answered right back in the seventh with three more insurance runs, thanks to a mix of hits, walks, and a hit-by-pitch. The game ended with the Nighthawks in the lead, 10-2.

The Nighthawks' pitching and defense held strong all night, allowing just two runs on seven hits. NNU's offense finished with 10 runs on 10 hits, highlighted by homers from Karpstein, Calnon, and Burns.

Game Two

Nin Burns II wasted no time getting the offense rolling in the final game, launching a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the first to give NNU the early lead. The Nighthawks kept their foot on the gas, adding three more runs in the inning with a two-run double from Adrian Arechiga and an RBI groundout from Gavin Brubaker.

In the second inning, Arechiga picked up another RBI single, and Gavin Brubaker delivered a two-run triple to right-center, pushing the lead to 7-0.

After a quiet third through fifth, NNU broke things open again in the sixth. Burns doubled in another run, and back-to-back RBI doubles from Kaleb Karpstein and Noah Palomares, followed by an RBI single from Cole Calnon, stretched the lead to double digits.

Saint Martin's managed to avoid the shutout with a solo home run from Hollabaugh in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to spark a rally. NNU closed out the win with a strong 11-1victory.
