Softball Struggles at Simon Fraser

BURNABY, B.C. – Northwest Nazarene softball endured a rough day in Canada on Friday, falling to Simon Fraser in both games of the doubleheader by scores of 10-2 and 8-0.

The Nighthawks fall to 11-10 overall and 1-3 in GNAC play after the conference-opening weekend.

Game 1: SFU 10, NNU 2 (6 inn.)

NNU got on the board first in the opener with Charlotte Forniss delivering an RBI double in the top of the first inning.

SFU took the lead in the second on a two-RBI double, though, and added two more runs in the fourth to go up 4-1. Emma Mulligan got one back with a solo homer in the top of the fifth, but the Red Leafs erased that run with one in the bottom of the inning and then scored five in the bottom of the sixth to end the game via the run rule.

Game 2: SFU 8, NNU 0 (5 inn.)

NNU managed just two hits in the nightcap, while Simon Fraser pushed four runs across in both the second and fourth innings to get to their total of eight.

Forniss and Mari Kamemoto had the hits for the Nighthawks.

Next Up

NNU will regroup and head back out on the road again next week, visiting Central Washington for four games from March 14-15.
