Bats Come Alive in Game Two for Split at Central Washington

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene softball earned a split in the GNAC doubleheader at Central Washington on Friday, falling 3-2 in game one before taking game two 15-6.
 
The Nighthawks move to 12-11 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
 
Game One: CWU 3, NNU 2
 
Clarissa Moreno got the Nighthawks on the board first in the opener, bringing home Emma Mulligan with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning.
 
CWU would score one in the third and two in the fifth though, taking a 3-1 lead to the seventh. NNU got one run back with an Ava Clark RBI single but the Nighthawks were unable to complete the comeback.
 
Mulligan had three hits in the game to lead NNU. Miah Lusk went 4.1 innings in the start, allowing three runs on three hits with six strikeouts. Victoria Frias got the final five outs in the circle.
 
Game Two: NNU 15, CWU 6
 
The Nighthawks' offense came alive in the nightcap, tallying 15 runs on 18 hits. NNU scored three in the first, one in the second, six in the third, three in the sixth, and two in the seventh en route to the victory.
 
Moreno was 2-5 with five RBIs in the game, while Mulligan finished with four hits and two RBI. Charlotte Forniss and Emma Bumatay each had two hits and three RBIs, while Jami Obringer notched three hits in the win.
 
Mulligan, Moreno, and Bumatay all homered for the Nighthawks, with both Moreno and Bumatay's coming as three-run shots and Mulligan's scoring two runs.
 
Riley McGee got the win with four strong innings in the circle, allowing just one run on four hits. Frias saw action again as well, while Lusk closed out the game with three strikeouts in the final 1.2 frames.
 
Up Next
 
The Nighthawks and Wildcats will play two more games tomorrow to close out the series, with first pitch of game one set for noon Pacific.
