Nighthawks Dominate with Four Game Sweep of Biola

LA MIRADA, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene put together a dominant performance claiming their first sweep of the season in their opening match up against Biola. With the 2 wins today, 12-2 in game 1 and 2-0 in game 2, the NNU squad finished their weekend 4-0.

Game One

NNU got on the board early with an RBI groundout from Cris
Enriquez in the first inning. The offense came alive in the third when Nin Burns II crushed a two-run homer, followed by a two-RBI double from Cole Calnon to make it 5-0.

Biola responded with a solo shot from
Whitman, J. in the fourth, but Adrian Arechiga answered with a home run of his own in the fifth to keep NNU in control.

The Nighthawks put the game out of reach in the eighth, taking advantage of wild pitches and defensive miscues to score four runs.

Casey Wayne
capped off the scoring in the ninth with an RBI single, sealing the Nighthawks' victory.

Game Two

Both teams struggled to generate offense early, with neither side managing a run through the first five innings.

The Nighthawks finally broke through in the sixth when
Burns reached on an error, advanced on a wild pitch, and came home on a throwing miscue to put NNU on the board.

Calnon
added an insurance run later in the inning with an RBI double, scoring Kaleb Karpstein to extend the lead to 2-0.

NNU's pitching staff was dominant, keeping Biola off balance and holding them to just four hits while racking up strikeouts.

The Eagles had a chance to rally in the seventh, but
a runner was left stranded as Landen Parker closed the door for the shutout win.

Next Up

NNU will stay in California as they head into next week to compete against Sonoma State. In a three game series the teams will hit the field to begin their match up on February 3rd at 1 pm pacific time.
