NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene men's soccer jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 6-3 non-conference victory over the University of Jamestown on Wednesday night.
The Nighthawks improve to 7-6-4 on the season with one game left to play.
Rylan McPherson got the scoring started in the 18
th minute, and
Baraka Dayi added the second goal just 30 seconds later. NNU then made it 3-0 in the 27
th minute when
Derek Johnson joined the party with his seventh goal of the season. Johnson also assisted Dayi's goal for his seventh assist of the year, tied atop the GNAC rankings in that category.
Jamestown got one back in the 35
th minute, but the Nighthawks followed that with two more goals before halftime.
Alejandro Morales scored his first of the year in the 38
th minute and
Rylan McPherson tallied his second of the game and GNAC-leading 11
th goal of the season in the 42
nd.
The visiting Jimmies were able to push two goals across in the second half, while NNU's Dayi also tallied his second of the game and fourth of the year to bring the final score to 6-3.
NNU held a 22-12 advantage in total shots and 12-7 advantage in shots on target.
Gerardo Fonte played the first half in goal with two saves, while
Elijah Brockl finished the final 45 minutes between the pipes and also picked up two saves.
Of note,
Dorian Cassen,
Noah Waddell, and
Eli Ingle also saw their first collegiate action with substitutions into the game in the second half.
The Nighthawks will now close out their 2025 campaign at home on Saturday, hosting Seattle Pacific at 1:00 p.m. as part of NNU's Homecoming festivities. NNU will also be honoring its three seniors prior to the game –
Jorge Gonzalez,
Robin Tanju, and
Ousman Garba.
