Nighthawks Fall to Falcons in Four Sets

NAMPA, Idaho – The Nighthawks hosted the Seattle Pacific Falcons on Saturday the 1st in the Johnson Sports Center. The competitive match saw the Falcons take the overall win  3-1 with set scores of: 25-27, 25-17, 25-21, and 25-20.

The opening set featured highly competitive play between the Nighthawks and the Falcons, with both teams trading points and tying the score multiple times. After SPU evened things up at 10-10, the Nighthawks found a momentum shift and began to pull ahead. A service ace by Kayci Spray extended their lead to 19-16 as NNU looked to close out the set.

However, the Falcons didn't go down easily, rallying for six straight points to reclaim the lead and push the set into extra points at 25-24. The Nighthawks regrouped, and a combination of an SPU error and a huge block from Madison Cheney and Madi Smith sealed the 27-25 set-one victory for NNU.

Coming out in set two, the Falcons found their rhythm in the latter half of the frame. A kill by SPU's Megan Omlid gave them a 14-13 lead, and they carried that momentum through the rest of the set, fueled by an explosive front row and consistent serving. The Nighthawks fought to stay within reach but couldn't overcome the Falcons' lead, as SPU took the set 25-17.

Riding that energy into set three, the Falcons started strong and built an early 7-4 advantage. The Nighthawks worked to keep the deficit close, with a kill from Hailey Cheney pulling them within four. With the score at 24-19 in favor of SPU, NNU made one final push behind back-to-back kills from Cheney and Morgan Wilding. However, the Falcons held firm and closed out the set 25-21.

With back-to-back set wins fueling their confidence, SPU carried that momentum into the fourth set. The Falcons' offense stayed hot, recording 13 kills to the Nighthawks' 9 and adding 5 blocks to pull away early. SPU took the final set 25-20, securing the 3-1 match victory.

Hailey Cheney led the way offensively with 11 kills followed by Madi Smith who recorded 9. Kayci Spray held down the defensive line with 15 digs.

The Nighthawks will travel to Oregon as we head into next week to compete against the Western Oregon Wolves in Monmouth. The game is set for 7 pm Pacific time in the New PE Building.
