NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's soccer honored their seniors in style on Senior Day, blanking Saint Martin's 3-0.
The Nighthawks improve to 5-9-2 overall and 4-6-2 in GNAC play with the victory. NNU sits fifth in the conference standings, and still has a chance to grab the fourth and final spot in the GNAC tournament if they win both games on the road next week and Seattle Pacific does not get more than one point in their three remaining games.
Before Saturday's contest began, the Nighthawks honored
Isabella Kimball,
Grace Fisher,
Savanna Herz, and
Ellie Ritter as they played their final home game on NNU Field.
NNU scored the opening goal in the first half, coming in the 30
th minute. Ritter had a shot attempt saved by the SMU keeper, but the deflection fell right to the feet of
Mackenzie Brown for her second goal of the season.
The second tally came just after halftime, when
Alexis Cromwell put the ball in the back of the net off assists from Ritter and Herz. The Nighthawks' final goal came in the 55
th minute, when
Brianna Abo was able to knock in a pass from
Ali Adkins with a leaping shot for the first goal of her collegiate career.
NNU's defense held strong all game, allowing only three shots on goal that were all stopped by
Alex Barrass for the shutout.
The Nighthawks hit the road for the final two games of the regular season next week, visiting Central Washington on Thursday and Simon Fraser on Saturday.
