NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene suffered a tough defeat at the hands of Western Oregon on Saturday, falling 2-1 to the Wolves.
NNU falls to 3-4-2 in GNAC play and 6-6-4 overall.
Western Oregon's first goal came on a bit of luck, as in the 17
th minute Michael Divano's attempted cross curled farther than anyone expected, sailing over all heads and just inside the top right corner of the net.
NNU responded quickly, scoring to tie it up in the 20
th minute when
Derek Johnson collected a rebound off a
Caleb Putney shot and slotted it home.
The Wolves took the lead back before halftime, though, with Yahir Ocampo Navarro bending in a strike straight off a corner kick that found the upper right corner again.
Despite leading in total shots 14-9 and shots on target 7-4, NNU was unable to find another tally.
NNU will now host Jamestown in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night before hosting Seattle Pacific in the regular season finale on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
