Nighthawks Sweep Yellow Jackets in Billings

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Nighthawks traveled to Montana State Billings on Saturday the 4th to compete against the Yellow Jackets. The NNU squad dominated in a three game sweep recording set scores of: 25-22, 25-21, 25-21.

As the teams hit the court the Yellow Jackets came out strong and built up a fast 7-1 lead. The Nighthawks didn't let up and a kill from Morgan Wilding and a block by Hailey Cheney and Abby Black helped the Nighthawks cut the deficit to 2. The MSUB team was able to hold on to their lead until the teams found themselves in the final stretch of the set. A kill by Lily Kinloch tied the game at 21-21. A block by Madi Smith and Maddy Hellem paired with a few Yellow Jacket errors saw the Nighthawks to a set one victory of 25-22.

Set two of the match got off to a similar start as set one with the Yellow Jackets stretching an early lead. A kill by Kinloch tied the game at 7-7 but the MSUB team pulled away once again. It wasn't until the final point of the game that the Nighthawks were able to switch the momentum to their side of the net. They put the set away on 2 kills by Hellem, 1 kill from Smith, and 1 kill from Cheney to finalize the score at 25-21.

Riding high on their 2 set wins the Nighthawks took an early advantage on the Yellow Jackets holding on to the lead for the majority of the set. A kill by Kirby Kaycee helped the NNU team secure their set 3 win and the sweep with a score of 25-21.

Haily Cheney and Maddy Hellem lead the Nighthawks offensively with 9 kills each. Morgan Wilding recorded 29 assists and had 13 digs.

The Nighthawks will be back in Nampa this coming weekend to compete against Saint Fraser University. The match is set for October 9th at 4 pm in the Johnson Sports Center.
