LACEY, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene women's soccer picked up its first GNAC victory of the season on Thursday, taking down Saint Martin's 1-0 on the road.
The Nighthawks move to 1-2 in conference play and 2-5 overall on the year.
NNU converted the lone goal of the game early, taking the lead in just the 13
th minute of action.
Ellie Ritter possessed the ball in the middle of the field and slotted a great pass through Saints defenders to a cutting
Mackenzie Brown. Brown got to the ball just before the keeper and took a quick touch to her left to evade the goalie, leading to a wide-open net and a tap-in for her first collegiate goal.
Both teams had numerous opportunities throughout the rest of the game, with NNU tallying 12 shots and seven on target and SMU registering 19 shots with six going on frame, but the 1-0 score held for a Nighthawks' victory.
Alex Barrass registered the clean sheet for her second shutout of the season, racking up six saves in the effort.
The Nighthawks will look to keep the momentum going when they visit 14th-ranked Western Oregon on Saturday, with game time set for 10:00 a.m. Pacific.
