Nighthawks Shut Out Wolves 3-0

NAMPA, Idaho – The NNU volleyball team hosted their second game of the weekend on Saturday, the 11th, against the Western Oregon Wolves. Riding the momentum from Thursday's win, the Nighthawks shut out the Wolves 3-0, with set scores of 25-21, 25-17, and 25-19.

The first set was a back-and-forth battle, with the Wolves taking an early lead before Morgan Wilding's service ace put the Nighthawks ahead 7-6. Western Oregon stayed in the match with strong offense, including four kills from Maela Honma, but NNU responded with a massive kill by Madison Cheney to tie the score at 16-16. The Nighthawks held strong down the stretch, closing out the set 25-23.

Set two started just as competitive, with NNU taking a 7-6 lead. Consistent offense and key service aces helped the Nighthawks build a comfortable advantage, entering the final stretch up by seven. A late surge by the Wolves brought them within six, but NNU held on to secure the set 25-17.

The third set remained tightly contested, with the Nighthawks maintaining a slim lead thanks to kills from Madi Smith, Abby Black, and Maddy Hellem, reaching 15-9. Western Oregon fought back to close the gap, but NNU finished strong, taking the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.

Hailey Cheney led the Nighthawks offense with 10 kills followed by Abby Black who recorded 9. Kayci Spray recorded 14 digs followed by Black who had 10.

The Nighthawks will make the trip to Alaska next week to compete against Alaska Fairbanks. The game is scheduled for Thursday October, 16th at 7 PM AKT in the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium.
