NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene women's soccer came back from a first-half deficit to overpower Montana State Billings in the second period for a 3-1 victory on Saturday.
The Nighthawks improve to 2-3-1 in GNAC play and 3-6-1 overall.
The Yellowjackets were in control early with multiple chances, and finally broke through in the 27
th minute when a dangerous cross was sent through the box and Abby Thompson slotted it into the back of the net.
The second half was an entirely different story immediately, as
Alexis Cromwell fought through the MSUB defense to tap in a goal in the 49
th minute and tie the game at 1-1.
Just two minutes later,
Ellie Ritter gave NNU the lead with a wonderful strike from outside the box that curled into the top left corner of the goal.
Cromwell added one more goal, putting NNU up 3-1 in the 58
th when her attempt deflected off the keeper and across the line. The goals are the first two of the season for Cromwell and the third and fourth of her career at NNU.
NNU ended up with an 18-10 advantage in shots and a 6-1 lead in corners. Ritter had five attempts, followed by Cromwell and
Attie Jo Westbrook with four shots apiece.
Alex Barrass picked up four saves in the victory.
The Nighthawks will now take their momentum into a big road matchup at Western Washington, visiting the Vikings in Bellingham on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7:00 p.m. Pacific.
