NNU Faces Off With APU in First Game of Golden Eagle Classic

Azusa, California – Northwest Nazarene Volleyball made the long trip to California this weekend to participate in the Golden Eagle Classic. The Nighthawks' first game of the tournament was this afternoon against Azusa Pacific.

NNU and APU came out with an intense first set. The Nighthawks battled against the offensive efforts of the Cougars, recording 23 digs. Abby Black and Lily Kinloch attempted to energize the Nighthawks' offense with 5 kills each. Despite their efforts, APU pulled ahead with a 25-16 win.

In the second set, NNU fought hard against APU but struggled to regain momentum. The Cougars once again dominated offensively with 13 kills, creating a deficit that the Nighthawks could not overcome. The final score of the second set was 25-14 in favor of the Cougars.

NNU came back in the third set, matching the intensity of APU. It was a back-and-forth game, with NNU recording 13 kills and APU 14 kills. As the match approached its final points, the Cougars edged ahead, taking the set with a score of 25-21.

They will face Ursuline College at 9 a.m. and then play against Concordia at 4 p.m. With games running through Saturday, we can look forward to a weekend full of Nighthawks volleyball.
