NAMPA, Idaho - Nighthawks Volleyball hosted Seattle Pacific in their first home conference game of the season.
As the game started it was clear it would be a good night of evenly matched volleyball. Staying within a few points of each other throughout the set the Nighthawks and the Falcons competed defensively. NNU totaled 12 digs compared to SPU's 11. Combing the defensive effort with a hitting percentage of .333 the Nighthawks were able to pull away with the first set win, 26-24.
As the second set got underway it proved to be just as competitive as the first. Staying close the Falcons and Nighthawks seemed to go kill for kill throughout the set. Both the Nighthawks and the Falcons totaled 12 kills, respectively. In the end, it came down to service errors by the Falcons. The Nighthawks took the game with a score of 25-23.
In the third set of the game, the Nighthawks held the lead until the end when the Falcons made a comeback. With an impressive offensive showing, SPU was able to pull off the win with a score of 21-25.
In the fourth, despite the efforts of the Nighthawks the Falcons continued to pull ahead offensively. With a total of 13 kills SPU shut down NNU, who were unable to battle back and lost the fourth with a score of 19-25.
In the fifth and final set of the game, the Nighthawks were able to regain the momentum they had in the first two sets of the game. Although the set began neck-and-neck, the Nighthawks fought their way to a victory, 15-12.
The Nighthawks will be back in the Johnson Sports Center on Saturday the 28th as they host Montana State Billings at 1 p.m.
