MONMOUTH, Ore. – Northwest Nazarene volleyball won the first two sets at Western Oregon on Saturday, but couldn't put the Wolves away in a five-set defeat.
NNU moves to 3-7 on the season and 0-2 in GNAC play after the first weekend of conference action.
The Nighthawks took the first sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-21, hitting well in both with a mark of .355 in the second set being their high for the match.
The Wolves bounced back in their home gym, however, taking set three 25-19 before squeaking out a 25-23 set four win and 15-13 fifth set victory.
Maren Machado had 23 kills and 15 digs while hitting .274 for the match.
Abby Black and
Hailey Cheney also registered double-digit kills, with 14 and 13, respectively.
Kayci Spray added 20 digs and three aces, while
Gabi Moore tallied 41 assists.
NNU will now return home for their first GNAC matches in the Johnson Sports Center, hosting Seattle Pacific on Thursday and Montana State Billings on Saturday.
