Nighthawks Compete in Their First GNAC Game of The Season

Lacey, Washington - NNU Volleyball made the trip to Lacey Washington to play Saint Martin's University in their first GNAC game of the season.

The Lady Nighthawks came out in the first set of the game facing a very strong offensive showing by the Saint's. Despite the efforts of NNU's defense they were unable to battle against the 11 kills put down by SMU. Keeping a comfortable lead for the majority of the set the Saint's took the win with a score of, 13-25.

Coming back from the first set the Nighthawks found a spark in the second. Even though the Saints took an early lead the Nighthawks battled back. In the high energy game the match was tied up 11 times. With the dual effort by Kinloch and Machado NNU took the second set victory, 25-19.

In the third set, NNU carried the energy from the second taking an early lead. The Saints stayed in the game but with a combination of hitting and service errors The Nighthawks kept their edge. With the score at 15-11 in favor of the Nighthawks, SMU called a timeout in an attempt to slow their growing momentum. However, with kills by Koch and Black the Nighthawks secured the win with a score of 25-16.

As the fourth set started SMU's offense overpowered NNU. The Saint's, Emmy Hansen, led her team with kills giving them a comfortable lead. As the Saints seemed to be pulling away with it the Nighthawks battled back coming within 8. Despite this effort SMU came out on top with a score of 16-25.

In the final set of the game NNU took back the momentum and led for the majority. However, with an outstanding effort put in by the Saints they were able to battle back to take the win with a score of 13-15. Machado led her team with 15 kills and 19 digs.
