Nighthawks Battle to the Finish Against the Point Loma Sea Lions

Nampa, Idaho - On day two of the Hampton Inn & Suites Nighthawks Classic NNU competed against the Point Loma Sea Lions.

Starting off the first set the NNU gym was filled with energy coming from the court and the stands. The Nighthawks student section showed out to cheer on the NNU team. In an evenly matched battle the set was tied up 14 times. The Nighthawks countered the offensive strength of the Sea Lions with their own intensity. Koch and Kinloch led the NNU squad with kills. Henjum also showed up defensively with 7 digs. The exciting first set came to a close with the Sea Lions on top with a score of, 22-25.

With Holm up to serve to start the second set, the Nighthawks went on a 6 point run. Feeling the pressure the Sea Lions called a timeout and successfully shook up the momentum the Nighthawks held on their side of the net. However, the Nighthawks proved to be on their game and got it right back. Kinloch led her team with 6 kills partnering with Moore who assisted on 5 of them. In an outstanding set the Nighthawks won 25-17.

In the third set, the Nighthawks came out just as strong as they did in the second. With four quick kills made by Machado the Nighthawks took a comfortable lead. In a deficit, the Sea Lions worked hard to battle their way back into the game tying it up 12-12. Competing at the net the game stayed close up to the very end until the Sea Lions pulled through taking the set, 23-25.

Nighthawks volleyball continued to not disappoint as they started the fourth set. With four early blocks put up by the Nighthawks front row they looked strong as they matched up against the Sea Lions offense. Although NNU fought to stay in the match the Sea Lions pulled away taking the set with a score of, 15-25. In a depiction of Christ-like sportsmanship the teams gathered together in prayer to end the evening.

The Nighthawks will finish out their appearance in the Hampton Inn & Suites Nighthawks Classic tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. as they battle against Westminster.
