Nighthawks Win Second Game of The Day

Nampa, Idaho - In game two of the day for The Nighthawks they faced off against the Biola Eagles in the Hampton Inn & Suites Nighthawks Classic tournament.

The Nighthawks started off the first set of the game clearly carrying the momentum from their earlier win in the day. Back to back kills by Koch and Black gave the Nighthawks their first lead of the game, passing the Eagles 8-6. Tensions rose as the Eagles called a challenge in the middle of the set on an attack error made by BU's Sierra Leopold. The call was upheld, keeping the energy with the Nighthawks as they continued to lead the game 15-9. In the final five points of the game Koch and Cheney had back to back kills shortly followed by a service error from BU that won the first set for the Nighthawks, 25-15.

The second set began just as strong as the first for the Nighthawks as they came out offensively aggressive. Keeping a strong lead for the beginning of the game. It wasn't until the service pairing of the twins on BU's team Bri and Bethany Bellfi that gave the Eagles the lead. Despite the hard work put in by the NNU squad they were unable to win it back and the second set went to BU, 17-25.

Ready to compete the Nighthawks came out in the third and took the lead early on. A pair of Kinloch kills combined with an impressive defensive showing by Machado started NNU off strong. BU worked to cut the lead multiple times but were unable to pass the Nighthawks. NNU looked strong as they entered into the last leg of the set with a combined effort by Cheney and Koch with a massive block. A kill by Kinloch followed by a service error made by BU put away the win for the Nighthawks, 23-20.

In the fourth set of the game the Nighthawks started as they had in all previous sets building a lead of 7-2. However, with a combination of hard serves again by Bethany Bellfi and a few attack errors by NNU the Eagles took the lead for a short period of time. The Nighthawks rallied together to take back the lead but lost it as it approached the second leg of the set. Biolo went on a 7 point run to put their lead at 16-10. Despite the work put in by NNU they were not able to recover from the defect and lost the set, 17-25.

Starting the fifth and final set of the game the Nighthawks went on a 5 point run with the service efforts made by Spray. With 7 kills from the NNU team to put their lead at 8-3 it seemed that with caution we could celebrate the second win of the day for the Nighthawks. This hope became a reality as Black with a kill and an Eagle error put it away for NNU with a score of 15-8.

The Nighthawks will be back tomorrow with another game in the Hampton Inn & Suites Nighthawks Classic. They will be facing off against Point Loma at 7 p.m.
