BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene softball fell to Western Washington 4-2 to begin the day and bounced back with an 8-0 win over Saint Martin's to stay alive in the GNAC Tournament.
The Nighthawks are now 39-9 overall and 20-4 in the GNAC.
Vs. Western Washington
The morning game began with three scoreless innings. Western Washington loaded the bases with just one out in the top of the first inning, but
Sidney Booth was able to escape the inning by striking out the next two batters.
Western Washington scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning on three hits and two errors. Two of the three runs were unearned.
Down 3-0,
Jami Obringer hit a two-out double off the wall in left field to give NNU their only runs of the game.
Emma Bumatay and
Keana Bell each scored on Obringer's double. The Vikings scored one more run in the top of the sixth inning to go up 4-2 and held NNU to just one more hit that came from
Ava Clark in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Sidney Booth pitched the first three innings of the game.
Gina Skinner relieved her for two innings of work and
Mia Traylor threw the final two innings for the Nighthawks.
Vs. Saint Martin's
Emma Bumatay opened the scoring against Saint Martin's with a solo home run on the first pitch of the second inning. Bumatay's spark was followed with a double by
Ava Clark later in the inning that scored
Keana Bell and
Emilie Hernandez to give the Nighthawks a 3-0 lead.
NNU's offense exploded for five runs that all came with two outs in the top of the sixth inning. The Nighthawks put together four hits in a row with that started with a single from
Jami Obringer.
Ava Clark followed with an RBI double, and
Emma Mulligan matched her with a double that scored two runs.
Clarissa Moreno capped the scoring for the inning with a two-run home run. After three quick outs in the bottom half of the inning, NNU won 8-0 on a mercy rule.
Sidney Booth earned her 24
th win of the season after pitching all six innings and striking out five batters. This was her 18
th complete game and 11
th shutout of the season.

The Nighthawks look for redemption against Western Washington tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time. To win the tournament, NNU needs to win two games against WWU. NNU will be the home team in game one via coin flip.
