In just their third season of competition in the MCLA, Northwest Nazarene men's lacrosse has burst on the national scene in a huge way this year, dominating opponents week after week before cruising to their first PNCLL Division II tournament title this past weekend.

The Nighthawks went 11-2 during the regular season and were ranked 10th in the nation entering the conference championships. In the PNCLL semifinal, NNU's high-octane offense powered the Nighthawks to a 25-14 win over Western Washington.

The title game was even more lopsided, with NNU blasting out to a 9-0 lead over host Montana midway through the second quarter. The Nighthawks led 10-1 at halftime, and the lead grew to 15-1 early in the third quarter before coming away with the convincing 20-5 victory.

NNU's top scorer in the title game was freshman Bodie Jones with six goals. Keaton Bean added five goals and an assist, while Loy Howard tallied four goals and an assist. Caleb Johnson dished out four assists along with one goal, while Hayden Diggins (1G, 1A), Bryden Dodson (2G), Kolsen Hawker (1G), and Riley Phillips (1A) also contributed to the Nighthawks' offensive barrage.

Rayden Allianic registered 11 saves in goal for NNU. Rayce Neill was his usual dominant self, recording an 82% face off win percentage (23-28) and 10 ground balls.

With the conference championship in hand, NNU didn't have to worry about waiting to see if they got an at-large berth to their first MCLA DII Championships as they earned the PNCLL's automatic bid to the national tournament.

NNU received the eight-seed in the sixteen-team bracket and is set to square off with nine-seed UNC Charlotte in the first round. All first round games are set to take place on Monday, May 6 in Round Rock, Texas, with NNU and UNCC's matchup scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Central / 6:45 p.m. Mountain.

The rest of the championships schedule includes the quarterfinals on Tuesday, May 7, semifinals on Thursday, May 9, and championship game on Saturday, May 11.

Coming from that first season to now and having won the conference championship, it's been a long, hard journey that I've enjoyed every minute of. Flying around that field with my brothers has been something I'll never forget in my life. The community, culture and character that Coach Blanchard has built within this team is what led us to where we are today. Today was a special day for me and my fellow seniors, as we got to bear the fruits of our labor these past four years in the highest form; winning the conference championship and making a run at nationals. I'm incredibly thankful for today, my brothers, my coaches, and NNU for allowing me such an opportunity. Sko Hawks!

It's hard to put this weekend into words for me. I have never been part of a team that is as driven as this team. Everyone here has such a passion and love for the game. This weekend was really a dream come true. I have been playing lacrosse for thirteen plus years and I have never won a championship or been part of a family like we have. This win has to be one of the best feelings I have ever experienced. All of the long hours and countless days of grinding really make this championship special. To have done it this weekend, with this group of guys, is an unreal feeling. I feel beyond blessed to have the coaches I have and the players I get to play with. I can't wait to see what God has in store for this team next and where He will take us.

There were two things at the forefront of my mind after our conference championship win, God and family. Playing the sport I love at a university that puts God first has been such an amazing experience. That combined with the coaching staff and teammates that I consider family have made this year very special. Having a coaching staff that cares not only about your development on the field but also your development as a person off the field is not something that all athletes get from their coaches, same can be said about my teammates who I consider all of them brothers. Overall, my takeaway from the win this weekend was the absolute appreciation I have for being able to be part of the NNU lacrosse team.
#29 Keaton Bean - Junior
The whole coaching staff has really made this program. Coach Blanchard has been building this program from the ground up and I've never had a head coach and whole coaching staff care as much as these guys. They do everything they can for us and in return we give them all we have, every time we take the field. We really wanted to win this one for Coach Blanchard - I knew before I transferred this was going to be a great team, when I was talking to Coach Blanchard he told me this team was going to win. Playing on this attack line has been some of the most fun I've ever had playing lacrosse. Bodie and Keaton are amazing players and we all have the ability to take control of a game, it's all about the team, not us as individuals.

I have competed with a lot of different teams and coaches; nothing comes close to the family that we have this year with this group. Coach Blanchard has shown me how to walk with God, and how to be a better man. I love these fellas.
#7 Loy Howard - Senior
Coach TB had a vision for years of what NNU lacrosse could be and today we fulfilled that vision. Coach has taken me under his wing, like a son, this team has such an emotional connection with not only TB but all of the coaching staff and we did this today for them. We came into this game knowing that we hadn't earned anything yet and coach continued to talk about the fact that we needed to earn that trophy and that's exactly what we did. Couldn't have done it without the entire team but special shout out to our attack line and my guy Loy Howard, horns up!
#24 Bodie Jones - Freshman
I am extremely proud of this group of young men, to accomplish what we accomplished this weekend after only four years of being in existence is truly remarkable. Five years ago, I had a clear vision for what NNU lacrosse could be and I knew it was going to be a big lift in order to get this program to the top of our conference and into the national spotlight but I was up for the challenge. Building out this program started with surrounding myself with the best coaches I could and I am so fortunate to have some truly amazing coaches around me: Coach Tom Otte, Coach Carson Plant, Coach Jackson Rice, and Coach Colbey Alsop.
