Nighthawks Softball Opens GNAC Play with Two Wins

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene softball run ruled Simon Fraser 8-0 in game one and hit a walk-off in game two to win 6-5.
 
The Nighthawks are now 14-2 overall and 2-0 in the GNAC.
 
Game 1
 
The Nighthawks opened the scoring for the series in the third inning with four runs. Clarissa Moreno stole second base and Ava Clark advanced home on the throw. Later in the inning, Moreno scored on a double to right center by Abigail Gagnon. Emma Bumatay hit a sac fly to score Sidney Booth. Gagnon came around to score the final run of the inning when Keana Bell reached base on an error.
 
Booth led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run. Gagnon and Bumatay followed her up with a couple of hits and they were both brought in to score with a single from Bell. Lynsey Chiala pinch ran for Bell and scored the winning run when Charlotte Forniss hit a sac fly to right field to win the game 8-0.
 
Sidney Booth advanced to 10-0 on the season after pitching five scoreless innings. Booth allowed just two hits and no free bases while striking out three batters.
 
Game 2
 
Simon Fraser scored first with two runs in the top of the first inning. Sidney Booth helped to get the Nighthawks on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, but the Red Leafs answered with another two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 4-1 lead.
 
Booth cut SFU's lead in half with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Emma Mulligan and Jami Obringer each scored on RBI singles by Gagnon and Bumatay, respectively, to tie the game at 4-4.
 
Ava Clark doubled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning and scored an an RBI single from Emma Mulligan to take a 5-4 lead. The Red Leafs didn't roll over, scoring one run in the top of the seventh inning to extend the game a little longer. Mari Kamemoto entered the game to pinch hit in the bottom of the seventh inning with runners on first and third. Kamemoto turned around the first pitch and banged it off the right field wall to give NNU the 6-5 victory.
 
Charlotte Forniss started the game in the circle and went 1.1. innings. She was relieved by Mia Traylor who pitched 4.2 innings without allowing a hit. Sidney Booth came in for the final inning and advanced to 11-0 on the season after being credited with the win.
