NNU Opens Otter Invitational with Two Wins

SEASIDE, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene softball took game one of the day with a 2-1 walk-off win over Concordia and won game two of the day with a 1-0 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Nighthawks are now 20-5 overall and 6-2 in the GNAC.

Vs. #20 Concordia

Neither team was able to score in the first seven innings of the pitchers dual. Each team began with a runner on second base in the eighth inning as per the international tie breaker rules. CUI was able to bring that runner in to score with two hits to start the inning. The next three batters were all retired in order.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, NNU brought the runner on second in to score after a single from Ava Clark and a double from Emma Mulligan. Clarissa Moreno was walked, and Sidney Booth ended the game with a sacrifice fly to the left fielder.

Gina Skinner pitched all eight innings for the Nighthawks. She allowed one unearned run on six hits while striking out one batter.

Vs. Cal State Monterey Bay

Game two of the day featured another low-scoring affair in which the Monterey Bay pitcher had a no-hitter through 6.2 innings of work. Emma Bumatay broke up the no-no with a home run in the seventh inning. This was NNU's only hit of the 1-0 victory.

Sidney Booth pitched all seven innings for the Nighthawks. She did not allow a run and struck out four batters.

On Deck
