Nighthawks Split the Day to Conclude Otter Invitational

SEASIDE, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene softball split the day, defeating Biola 6-3 in their morning game and falling to Concordia 8-0 in the evening.
 
The Nighthawks are now 21-6 overall and 6-2 in the GNAC.
 
Vs. Biola
 
Biola scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, but NNU wasted no time answering back. The Nighthawks scored four runs in the top of the second inning. Annie Swanson was up to bat with bases loaded and singled to the pitcher to score Olivia Bailey. Later in the inning, Emma Mulligan singled to score Keana Bell and Swanson, making the score 3-1. The final run of the inning came with a single off the bat of Sidney Booth, which scored Ava Clark.
 
Mari Kamemoto scored on a sacrifice fly by Clark in the third inning. Clarissa Moreno scored in the top of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Emma Bumatay to take a 6-1 lead. Biola added one run in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth to get the score to it's 6-3 final.
 
Kamemoto and Moreno each reached base three times in the game. Sidney Booth had two hits, which ties her for the team lead in multi-hit games at eight.
 
Booth started the game for the Nighthawks and advanced to 14-3 on the season with the win. She pitched innings one through four, as well as the seventh inning. Booth struck out three batters and allowed just one run. Gina Skinner pitched innings five and six for the Nighthawks. Skinner allowed one earned run and struck out one batter in her two innings of work.
 
Vs. #20 Concordia
 
Emma Mulligan led off the bottom of the first inning for the Nighthawks with a bunt for a base hit. This would prove to be NNU's only hit of the game. Concordia scored one run in second and one run in the third inning before pouring on four runs in the top of the fourth. The Golden Eagles added on two runs in the top of the final inning to make the score 8-0.
 
Mia Traylor started the game for the Nighthawks and pitched the first two innings. Gina Skinner came in for 4.1 innings of work before Traylor was subbed back in to get the final two outs.

The Nighthawks next contest is a in Atherton, California. They are scheduled to play a doubleheader against Menlo on Monday, March 25th. First pitch is at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
