NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene softball defeated Saint Martin's 17-2 in game one and 3-1 in extra innings of game two.
The Nighthawks are now 12-2 on the season.
Game 1
The Nighthawks wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. In the bottom of the first inning, NNU sent 15 women to the plate and scored nine runs on six hits. All six hits in the first inning were singles.
Saint Martin's responded to the nine-run inning with two runs on two hits in the top of the second inning. After a scoreless bottom of the second and top of the third, NNU generated another big inning, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the third. The eight-run rally featured three singles, five walks, and one error. NNU held on to the 17-2 score and won on run rule in four and a half innings.
Sidney Booth pitched 4.0 innings and advances to 8-0 on the season. Booth was credited with two unearned runs, two walks, and five strikeouts. As a hitter, Booth went 2-2 at the plate with two runs, two walks, and four RBIs. Six different Nighthawks had a multi-RBI game.
Mia Traylor pitched the final inning and struck out one batter while facing the minimum.
Game 2
Saint Martin's scored one run in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by four hitter, Shelby Lawson.
The 1-0 score held through most of the game. In the bottom of the seventh inning,
Emma Bumatay led off with a solo home run that tied the game at 1-1 and sent the contest into extra innings. NNU threatened to end the game in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Mari Kamemoto led off the inning with a single and
Jami Obringer pinch ran for her. Obringer stole second and advanced to third on an error. The Nighthawks were unable to bring Obringer in to score.
After sending the game into extra innings, Bumatay called game in her next at bat when she hit a two-run bomb in the bottom of the ninth inning to give NNU the 3-1 victory.
Charlotte Forniss started for NNU and pitched 3.1 innings.
Mia Traylor entered the game for 5.0 innings of relief and allowed just four hits while striking out six batters.
Sidney Booth pitched the final 0.2 innings and earned her ninth win of the season.
