Nighthawks Begin a Long Weekend on The Road With Match Up Against The Red Leafs

BURNABY, Canada – Nighthawks Volleyball made the long trip up to Canada yesterday to compete against Simon Fraser University. In 4 sets the Red Leafs overtook the Nighthawks winning the game 3-1.

The Nighthawks started off the night strong in the first set overpowering the Red Leafs offensively. The Nighthawks recorded 19 kills with a hitting percentage of .235 compared to Simon Frasers' 14 kills and .25 percent. In a close match up the Nighthawks took the win 25-23.

Coming out in the second the Red Leafs got the momentum on their side of the court and were able to turn the match in their favor. Despite the efforts put in by the Nighthawks the Simon Fraser was able to combine consistent kills with a steady defense to take the set, 25-20.

The final two sets of the game stayed in favor of the Red Leafs who recorded wins in the third and fourth with scores of 25-23 and 25-9. The Nighthawks competed well in the third set recording 18 kills however it was not enough to edge out the Red Leafs. As the fourth set got underway the stifling defense by Simon Fraser won them the overall victory.

Maren Machado and Abby Black led the Nighthawks with 17 kills a piece partnering with Gabi Moore who had 35 assists. Miya Koch led defensively, recording 21 digs.

The Nighthawks will continue their trip on the road as they compete against the Western Washington Vikings in Bellingham. The game is set for November 16th at 7 p.m. pacific time in the Carver Gym.
