MONMOUTH, Ore. – Northwest Nazarene men's soccer tied the game at one apiece early in the second half, but the No. 10 Western Oregon attack was too much in a 4-1 Wolves victory.
The Nighthawks fall to 4-6-2 overall and 3-2-1 in GNAC play.
Western Oregon capitalized on their first opportunity as the first shot of the game found the back of the net in the sixth minute of action.
That score held until half, but the Nighthawks found the equalizer 13 minutes into the second period.
Jonathan Cardona was able to get around a pair of Wolves defenders on the left side and fire a dangerous ball in towards the box, where it deflected off the back of a WOU player and spun into the top right corner of the goal.
The draw only lasted four minutes, however, as after a controversial red card was handed out to NNU's
Robin Tanju, the Wolves took advantage of the extra man and scored in the 63
rd minute.
The Western Oregon lead grew to 3-1 in the 69
th minute, when an NNU miscue on the defensive end led to a one-on-one opportunity that the Wolves capitalized on. WOU wasn't done, adding one more in the 87
th to get the 4-1 final.
NNU will now travel up Interstate 5 to Seattle Pacific, with start time set for 2:00 p.m. Pacific on Saturday.
