NNU Is Edged Out By SFU in Afternoon Game

NAMPA, Idaho – NNU volleyball played against Simon Fraser this afternoon falling in a 3-1 match-up. The Nighthawks and fans in attendance sported pink showing support to Breast Cancer Aawarness and the Sideout Foundation.

NNU moves to 6-11 on the season and 3-6 in GNAC play as the head into the weekend.

As the first set got underway the Nighthawks took a comfortable lead to start the game. Building up an edge of 7 points with the combined efforts of Maren Machado serving and Abby Black at the net. It looked as if NNU would take the win when SFU began to battle back. Getting the game within 3 towards the end it was a block put up by Marren Machado and Hailey Cheney that secured the, 25-21, win for the Nighthawks.

Riding the momentum from the first set the Nighthawks came out very strong in the second. However, SFU was able to battle their way back into the game and take the win with a score of 26-24. NNU and SFU both recorded 16 kills however the Nighthaws had a precentage of .217 compared to the Red Leafs .267.

The Red Leafs were able to keep the momentum with them to finish off the game taking the third and fourth sets. Closing the third with a score of 25-19 and the fourth with a score of 25-23. The Nighthakws battled hard but could not overpower the offensively strong SFU team.

Miya Koch led her team with 19 kills pairing up with Gabi Moore who had 35 assists. Marren Machado led defensively contributing 23 digs.

NNU will be in Montanta next week as they face off against Montana State Billings. The game is scheduled for Thursday, October, 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the Alterowitz Gymnasium.
