Nighthawks Finish Out Weekend in Alaska With a Win

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – NNU volleyball continued their appearance in Alaska this afternoon as they faced off against the Alaska Nanook's. Going into five sets the Nighthawks came out on top recording a win 3-2. 

NNU moves to 6-9 on the season and 3-4 in GNAC play as the head back to Nampa. 


The Nanook's proved to be tough competition for the Nighthawks as they took the first set win with a score of 25-20. UAF recorded 13 kills with a percentage of .250, compared to the 11 kills by the Nighthawks.


NNU recovered and took the second and third sets with scores of 25-23 and 26-24. In the nail biting sets the teams fought hard against each other. The Nighthawks were able to edge the win with a better offensive showing.


Moving the game back to tie standing UAF took the fourth set recording a score of 25-16. However, the Nighthawks came back in the fifth and took the overall victory with a score of 15-11. 


Abby Black led her team with a stand out offensive performance recording 23 kills. Kayci Spray and Marren Machado picked up 20 and 21 digs, respectively. Gabi Moore contributed 26 assists.  


NNU will make another trip next week as they head up to Western Washington to compete against the Vikings. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, October, 17.
