NEW ORLEANS - The USTFCCCA announced the All-Region honors for the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field season on Wednesday, with five athletes from Northwest Nazarene earning the accolade.
Steven Schmidt is all-region in three events - the high jump, pole vault, and decathlon.
Kinsey Yenor gets the nod in the pole vault, joined by
Dylan Hendry in the hammer,
Destany Herbert in the shot put, and
Miya Koch in the high jump.
Schmidt in the high jump and Yenor in the pole vault are also recognized as Top Regional Performers. Both have also been selected to compete at the DII Outdoor Championships in Pueblo, Colorado next week in those events, with Schmidt also participating in the decathlon at nationals.
To earn All-Region status, athletes must finish the season with a mark in the top five in their event across the region, which is the West for NNU.
As mentioned, Schmidt's high jump mark of 2.15 meters is tops in the West, while his 7,047 points in the decathlon is fourth and 4.85 meter clearance in the pole vault is fifth. Yenor led the region by a wide margin in the pole vault, with her top mark of 4.01 meters well ahead of the second-place 3.89 meters.
Dylan Hendry's toss of 55.26 meters in the hammer to win the GNAC title is second in the region this year. Herbert's season-best heave of 14.36 meters in the shot put is also second in the region this year, while Koch's clearance of 1.68 meters in the high jump is fifth in the West.
The five honors matches the number of Indoor All-Region awards that the Nighthawks received earlier this year, with Schmidt, Yenor, Hendry, and Herbert all doubling down as repeat honorees.
