Nighthawks Split with MSU Billings for a Series Win

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene baseball dropped game three of the series with MSUB 7-4 but answered back with a 2-1 win in game four.
 
The Nighthawks are now 11-14 overall and 5-3 in GNAC play.
 
Game 1
 
MSU Billings got out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning on two doubles. They added two runs in the top of the 4th inning on three hits and three runs in the top of the 6th inning, extending their lead to 6-0.
 
NNU tallied their first run of the game in the bottom half of the 6th inning when Mason Leavitt hit a double and was brought around to score on a single from Shane Jamison.
 
The Yellowjackets added their final run of the game in the top of the 7th inning. NNU showed heart by fighting back to add three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Nolan Walker led the five-hit rally for the Nighthawks with a double down the right field line.
 
Neither team scored in the final two innings as MSUB held on for the 7-4 win.
 
Game 2
 
In game two, the Nighthawks got out to a 2-0 lead after scoring one run in the 1st inning and one run in the 2nd inning. Their first run came on an RBI double from Kaleb Karpstein that scored Mason Leavitt. The second run came on a solo home run to left field from Tyler Best.
 
Nathan Galusha started for NNU and threw 4.1 innings while allowing just one run en route to his first win of the season. Ty Pohlmann threw 1.2 innings and struck out four batters. Joseph Ihli collected his sixth save of the season after throwing the final inning for the Nighthawks and striking out two to help the Nighthawks to their 2-1 win.
