Nighthawks Cruise to Victory over Royals

NAMPA, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene men's basketball cruised to a 90-45 victory over Douglas College on Saturday night in their return to the court after the holiday break.
 
With the win, the Nighthawks improve to 6-4 overall on the season and remain 2-0 in GNAC play with conference action starting up again next week.
 
NNU opened the game with a 10-0 run over the first four minutes, and it was off to the races from there as the Nighthawks would lead by double digits for the rest of the game.
 
The lead reached as high as 26 in the first half, when Rayzhon Bergersen nailed a triple to make it 43-17 with just under two minutes remaining. NNU then went into the break up 24 at 44-20.
 
NNU kept the pressure on in the second half, leading by as many as 47 points before taking the 90-45 victory.
 
NNU shot 56% in the game while holding Douglas to 34%. The Nighthawks outrebounded the Royals 40-25 and only committed 10 turnovers while forcing 23.
 
Mason Machado led the Nighthawks in both points and rebounds with a near double-double of 14 points and eight boards. Yaru Harvey was next with 12 points, followed by Easton Reagan with 10.
 
All 12 Nighthawks that saw action in tonight's game scored at least four points, including the first collegiate points for a pair of redshirt freshmen in Cade Rubright and Cameron Holliway.
 
With five rebounds on the night, Gabe Murphy is now the NNU NCAA DII career record holder for rebounds with 637, breaking a tie with Kevin Rima's total set in 2015.
 
NNU returns to conference play next week, hosting Seattle Pacific on Thursday and Montana State Billings on Saturday.
