Nighthawks Downed by Vikings in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene men's basketball could not overcome a fast start by Western Washington on Saturday, falling to the Vikings 78-60.
 
The Nighthawks move to 7-10 on the year and 4-5 in GNAC play.
 
How It Happened
 
NNU scored the first basket of the game on a Kobe Terashima layup, but WWU would go on a 21-5 run over the next seven minutes to take a 14-point lead.
 
The Vikings would still hold a 14-point advantage at halftime, going into the break up 40-26.
 
The Nighthawks were unable to cut into the Vikings' lead for most of the second half, as WWU extended the lead to 24 at the 8:39 mark with a 67-43 advantage.
 
The Vikings kept the lead in double digits the rest of the way, taking the 18-point win.

  • The Nighthawks won the turnover battle by a wide margin, committing just 15 while forcing 28 by the Vikings
  • NNU also had the advantage in points off turnovers (21-15) and second chance points (14-8)
  • Ryzin Bergersen led the Nighthawks with 14 points, going 4-8 from beyond the arc
  • Yaru Harvey added 10 points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists
  • Kobe Terashima had nine points, five assists, and four steals
  • Timothy TenKley also had four steals, while Gabriel Murphy and Mason Machado tied for the team lead with six rebounds apiece
