NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene men's basketball dropped their first game of the 2023 calendar year on Saturday, falling to Central Washington 74-65 on Saturday night.
The Nighthawks move to 6-9 on the year and 3-4 in GNAC play.
How It Happened
Central started well with 14 points in the first five minutes, taking a 14-9 lead at the 15:18 mark. NNU tallied five straight to tie things up on a
Tru Allen layup, but the Wildcats responded with a triple to take back the lead.
The Nighthawks would have another run in them in the first half, going on a 12-2 run to take a three-point lead, 26-23, after a
Jaden Carter three with 6:24 to go in the period.
CWU closed the half well, however, and took a 39-31 advantage into the break.
The Wildcats would fend off the Nighthawks for most of the second half, keeping the lead between 10-15 points until the final minutes.
NNU cut the deficit down to seven on a Tim TenKley three with 27 seconds left, but it was too little, too late as Central took the nine-point victory.
