NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene men's soccer won their home opener in a 3-0 shutout against Chaminade on Tuesday.
How it Happened
In the first half the Nighthawks took five shots to the Silverswords one. Three of the Nighthawks five shots were on target and saved. All five shots from the Nighthawks were taken by a different player.
In the 52
nd minute,
Lorenzo Valentini was lined up for a penalty kick. He took his shot, and the keeper deflected it. Valentini tracked the deflection and fired the ball into the net for a goal.
In the 54
th minute,
Lukas Juodkunaitis lofted a perfect ball in front of the goal for
Sullivan Smith to put a header into the corner of the net to put the Nighthawks up 2-0.
With the clock winding down,
Daniel Brendel blocked a header from a Silverswords defender with a header of his own. By the time the defender realized what had happened, Brendel was already racing to the ball. He took his shot and scored with three minutes left to put the game away at 3-0.
