LACEY, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene women's soccer got back to their winning ways on Thursday with a 1-0 victory at Saint Martin's.
With the win, the Nighthawks' unbeaten streak runs to seven following the draw last Saturday after five-straight victories. NNU improves to 6-1-2 on the year and 4-0-1 in GNAC play.
How It Happened
After multiple attempts went wayward or were saved, the Nighthawks broke through for a goal in the 32
nd minute.
NNU had a throw-in taken by
Magda Wronski close to the near corner in Saint Martin's defensive half. Wronski quickly got the ball back after the throw and sent in a wonderful cross to the middle of the box, where
Savanna Herz was waiting to head it in over the keeper's head for the score.
Both NNU and Saint Martin's had chances to score in the second half, but none were able to connect as five total shots on goal ended up empty, with the Nighthawks holding on for the one-goal victory.
Nighthawks Notes
- As mentioned, NNU is now on a seven-game unbeaten streak, but still six shy of the program record 13-straight victories that included the entire shortened spring 2021 season (11 games) and the first two contests of the regular fall 2021 campaign
- Herz' goal was the first of the freshman's collegiate career, adding to two assists already this season for four points
- Wronski's assist was the 18th of her career, pulling within one of second-place all-time in NNU's record books
- NNU is now 17-9-1 all-time against Saint Martin's, including a current 12-game win streak that dates back to the 2016 season
