NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene men's soccer started out GNAC play strong with a 3-0 win over Saint Martin's on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
The score was tied 0-0 for most of the first half. Although the score was close, it seemed that the Nighthawks were in control as the Nighthawks took nine shots compared to three shots from the Saints.
The Saints had possession on their defensive half in the final minute of the first half. A Saints player attempted to pass the ball across the field, but
Lukas Juodkunaitis got to the ball first and delivered a hard strike past the Saints goalkeeper to send the Nighthawks to the break with a 1-0 lead.
The Nighthawks extended their lead with a goal from
Jake Levine in the 80
th minute of the game. Levine's goal came on an assist from
Brandon Parsio who executed a good low cross to give the Nighthawks their second goal of the contest.
Immediately following the goal,
Sullivan Smith substituted back into the game. The fresh legs served the Nighthawks well. Within 30 seconds of the substitution, Smith scored a goal that was assisted by
Jonathan Cardona.
Down a man from a red card earlier in the match, the Saints had trouble generating any offense as NNU earned the 3-0 shutout.
