SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene volleyball took care of business with ease on Friday night, dispatching tournament host Dominican in straight sets 25-12, 25-15, 25-13.
How It Happened
The opening set was relatively close for the first part, with NNU taking a 12-11 lead. However, from there NNU scored eight points in a row and 13 of the final 14 to take the 25-12 win.
Trailing 8-7 in the second set, the NNU run started a little earlier with six points in a row to go up 13-8 on a kill from
Olivia Wright. The Penguins cut the deficit to 16-13, but the Nighthawks then rattled off seven in a row to put the set away.
NNU was finally able to dominate from start to finish in the third set, taking an early lead and never looking back, finishing with the final four points to take the 25-13 victory and win the match.
Nighthawks Notes
- The Nighthawks hit .253 in the match, including .375 in the opening set, while holding Dominican to negative numbers with a -.028 mark
- NNU had nine aces to none for Dominican while outpacing the Penguins 36-18 in kills
- Natalie Sullivan led the Nighthawks with 12 kills and hit .313, while Olivia Wright had five kills and hit .364
- Freshman Abigail Brown notched six kills and hit .455 in her collegiate debut
- Caroline McMahon had 14 digs and Maren Dent had 13
- Miya Koch and Helen Sullivan had four aces apiece
