HAYWARD, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene men's soccer defeated Cal State East Bay 2-1 on Saturday to get their first win of the season in thrilling fashion.
How it Happened
The Nighthawks wasted no time getting on the board. The first goal was scored in the ninth minute of the game by
Jimmy Koufidakis and assisted by
Lorenzo Valentini.
That score held up until the second half. In the 53
rd minute, though, East Bay's Aaron Farnan scored a goal to knot the game at 1-1.
With the seconds inching closer to another draw,
Ethan Atterberry broke through in the 88
th minute and scored on an assist from
Lukas Juodkunaitis to give the Nighthawks a 2-1 lead.
The Pioneers didn't go down without a fight. In the final seconds,
Sawyer Price had to save a shot on goal from Peter Hawken to seal the win.
Nighthawks Notes
- The Nighthawks had 11 shots with five of them being on goal, while the Pioneers had 17 shots, seven of them on goal
- Sawyer Price played all 90 minutes in goal and had six saves
- Koufidakis now has goals in back-to-back games to start the season
