KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2022 Academic All-District Teams for men's and women's cross country and track & field on Thursday, with Northwest Nazarene's
Tyler Shea earning the honor.
Shea receives the All-District award for the second-straight year after also earning it in 2021. He is one of just three men's track & field athletes at NNU to receive the honor, and is now the only one to do so multiple times.
Shea, a Mathematics major from Spokane, Wash. with a cumulative 3.94 GPA, had a stellar senior season on the track to conclude his remarkable Nighthawks career.
This season, he set a pair of new NNU records, one in indoor and one in outdoor, with a time of 8:28.81 in the indoor 3000m and a mark of 14:23.08 in the outdoor 5000m. He also finishes his career second all-time at NNU in the outdoor 10,000m, fourth in the indoor mile, fifth in the outdoor 1500m, 10th in the outdoor 800m, and a member of the 2020 Distance Medley Relay squad that is second all-time in program history.
He also performed well this season at the GNAC Championships, earning a pair of runner-up finishes and silver medals at the outdoor championships in the 5,000m and the 10,000m. The senior was also fourth in both the 3,000m and the 5,000m at the indoor conference meet and 13th at the cross country championships back in the fall.
With the selection, Shea is now eligible for selection to the Division II Academic All-America Track & Field Team, which will be announced on June 23.
The Academic All-District teams are nominated and voted upon by members of CoSIDA and recognize student-athletes of sophomore standing or higher who are starters or significant reserves for their teams with a minimum GPA of 3.30 or better. Members of the Academic All-District 8 team are selected from players from the GNAC, CCAA and PacWest Conference.
