TURLOCK, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene softball couldn't get the offense going on day one of the Tournament of Champions in Turlock, falling to Holy Names 3-2 in the afternoon before dropping the nightcap to Dominican 3-1.
Game One
The Nighthawks got on the board first in the opener, as
Mackenzie La Neve notched an RBI single to score
Mari Kamemoto in the top of the third.
Holy Names would use timely hitting and benefit from an NNU error in the bottom of the fourth to push across three runs, taking a 3-1 lead. The Nighthawks got one back in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Maia McNicoll, but NNU would strand the bases loaded with two strikeouts to end the inning and the game.
Tori Hensley started for NNU and went 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on just two hits while striking out three.
Gina Skinner threw the final 2.2 frames, allowing just an unearned run and notching two strikeouts.
NNU had seven hits in the game, led by two from
Sidney Booth, who went 2-3 with a walk.
Game Two
Dominican jumped out right away in the top of the first win a run to go up 1-0, and that was where the score would stay all the way to the bottom of the sixth.
In the sixth,
Tori Hensley got the Nighthawks on the board with an RBI single to score
Siolo Church and tie things up at one.
The tie was short-lived, though as Dominican scored two in the top of the seventh and held on in the bottom of the inning to win 3-1.
Sidney Booth went seven innings in the circle, allowing three runs and striking out eight. The Nighthawks had five hits, all from different players.

The Nighthawks will take on Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State San Bernardino in their final two games at the Tournament of Champions, taking on the Otters at 9:00 a.m. Pacific and the Coyotes at 3:30 p.m. Pacific.
