PORTLAND, Ore. - The GNAC announced the weekly award winners for Feb. 21-27 on Monday, with Northwest Nazarene basketball's
Gabriel Murphy receiving the award.
Murphy averaged 15.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game and shot 70.4 percent from the field as the Nighthawks closed the regular season with a 3-0 week.
Murphy led NNU with 20 points in Tuesday's 85-64 win over Simon Fraser, making 8 of 11 from the field. He added 16 points and six rebounds in Thursday's 90-57 win over Seattle Pacific, which included a pair of three-pointers. Murphy closed the week with 10 points and six rebounds in Saturday's 76-41 victory over Montana State Billings, making 5 of 8 from the field.
This is the first conference player of the week honor for men's basketball this season, joining a pair of Team of the Week recognitions.
The Nighthawks are arguably the hottest team entering this week's GNAC Tournament, winners of four in a row and seven of their last eight.
NNU will open tournament play this Thursday as the two-seed, taking on the winner of the 7/10 matchup between Simon Fraser and Alaska Fairbanks.
