AZUSA, Calif. - Northwest Nazarene volleyball wrapped up their Southern California trip with their first win of the season, defeating Fresno Pacific 3-0 in a neutral-site contest on Saturday.
It was the Nighthawks' first match of the year that wasn't a true road game, and they were able to grab the momentum early with a hard-fought 25-23 win in set one. Set two was close again, with NNU pulling away late for a 26-24 victory.
Riding the momentum of the first two frames, the Nighthawks were able to win set three by a slightly larger margin, ending the match with a 25-20 advantage.
Natalie Sullivan led the Nighthawks with 17 kills and 16 digs.
Mattisyn Cope (13) and
Brooke Foster (10) also had double-digit kills, while
Caroline McMahon anchored a strong back line with 29 digs.
Gabriella Haws led the team with 20 assists,
Megan MacKinney was tops with three aces, and
Mckenzie Lee picked up five blocks to go with 13 assists.
With the nonconference portion of the schedule now complete, the Nighthawks will head into GNAC play next week with a pair of road matches at Seattle Pacific and Montana State Billings.
