Nighthawks Come Up Short at Cal Poly Pomona

POMONA, Calif. - Northwest Nazarene volleyball came out strong against Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, taking the first set, but the Broncos rallied to take the next three to defeat the Nighthawks 3-1.

In that first frame, NNU was behind 19-13 before rattling off seven straight points, including two aces from Brooke Foster, to go up 20-19. Cal Poly bounced back to go up 24-22, but NNU would score five of the next six points to take a 27-25 victory.

The Nighthawks used that momentum to take a 16-7 lead in the second set, but the Broncos rallied back to go up 20-18 and would then hold on for a 25-23 win.

Sets three and four did not go the Nighthawks way either, as Cal Poly Pomona took them by scores of 25-16 and 25-18.

Natalie Sullivan led NNU with 15 kills, two aces, and eight digs. Caroline McMahon had also had a pair of aces to go with 22 digs, while Gabriella Haws led the team with 23 assists.

NNU will wrap up their Southern California trip tomorrow morning when they take on Fresno Pacific at 10:00 a.m. PT in a neutral site match played on the campus of Azusa Pacific.
