NNU Drops Five-Set Thriller in Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Northwest Nazarene women's volleyball forced a fifth set on Friday night, but came up short in the final frame to fall to Alaska Fairbanks 3-2.

Every set was close, decided by five points or less. NNU took the first set 25-22, but fell in the second and third by scores of 27-25 and 25-22. The Nighthawks bounced back for a 25-20 fourth set win, but the Nanooks eked out a wild 22-20 fifth set to take the victory.

Down 10-8 in the final set, NNU rallied for five-straight points to go up 13-10 on a kill from Natalie Sullivan. UAF tallied the next four, however, before Abbey Blum was able to place a kill and even the score at 14. The score swayed back-and-forth for multiple points, until after a 20-20 tie, the Nanooks were able to take two in a row for the win.

Brooke Foster had 20 kills and 18 digs for NNU, while Caroline McMahon registered 30 digs and two aces. Blum finished with 16 kills, while Sullivan had 13. Mckenzie Lee dished out 33 assists and Casey Kispert recorded 21, while Mattisyn Cope and Anna Gable tied for the team lead with four blocks apiece.

NNU and UAF will face off again tomorrow, with the match time set for 11:00 AM AKT/1:00 PM MT.
