NNU Improves to 4-0 with Senior Day Victory

NAMPA, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene women's soccer made it four straight wins to open the season on Saturday, defeating Saint Martin's 3-1 on Senior Day.

The Nighthawks also took down the Saints by the same score on Thursday. Prior to the game, NNU celebrated the career of senior Rikki Myers, who will go down as one of the best players in program history.

NNU dominated the run of play in the match, outpacing SMU 22-4 in shots including an 11-2 advantage on goal. The Nighthawks also had a 7-2 advantage in corners drawn.

Ashley Parton got the Nighthawks on the board first, finishing a feed from Sierra Sanchez to make it 1-0 in the 13th minute.

The next score didn't come until the 52nd minute, when NNU made it 2-0 as McKenzie Buell scored from close range off an assist from Parton.

Saint Martin's got one back just six minutes later, as a foul inside the box led to a penalty chance for the Saints, which Kiersten Madsen converted to cut the deficit in half. The Nighthawks would return the favor, though, scoring on a penalty kick of their own with Madison Grande converting from the spot in the 72nd minute.

Myers put four shots on frame on her Senior Day, but was unable to find the back of the net. Alexis Montoya went the full 90 minutes in goal to get the win, saving one Saint attempt.

The Nighthawks will remain at home for their next match, hosting Montana State Billings on Thursday, March 18 at 6:00 p.m.
