NAMPA, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene women's volleyball got in the win column twice on Friday, defeating Colorado Christian 3-0 and 3-1 in the first home games for the program since 2019.
With the wins, the Nighthawks improve to 2-5 on the year. NNU's next match is scheduled to be at home on March 12 against Westminster, starting at 6:00 p.m.
Match One - NNU 3, CCU 0
The Nighthawks and Cougars battled through tight sets in the first two frames, with NNU coming out on top 25-21 and 25-23 to go up 2-0. NNU had no trouble in the third set, though, jumping out to leads of 14-3 and 22-7 before eventually taking the set 25-15 to claim the match.
While kills were dead even at 36 apiece, the Nighthawks made up for it in many other ways, including an 11-2 edge in service aces and a 12-4 advantage in blocks. NNU also tallied 51 digs to 46 for CCU and held the Cougars to just a .099 attack percentage.
Brooke Foster and
Tayler Markland led NNU with seven kills apiece, while Markland also added seven blocks.
Mckenzie Lee notched 17 assists in the first game, followed by 10 for
Casey Kispert.
Caroline McMahon tallied 17 digs in the win.
Match Two - NNU 3, CCU 1
The Cougars came out ready to play to begin the second match, coming back from a late deficit to take the opening set from the Nighthawks, 26-24.
NNU took care of business after that, taking the next three sets by finals of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-20. Once again, the Nighthawks had large advantages in aces (9-4) and blocks (9-3). NNU also hit .322 for the match, including .483 in the second set.
Foster tallied 12 kills to lead the Nighthawks, followed by ten for
Abbey Blum and nine for
Natalie Sullivan.
Anna Gable recorded five blocks, while
Caroline McMahon registered 15 digs. Lee finished with 24 assists, while Kispert had 17.
