NAMPA, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene men's soccer tallied two goals in each half to take care of Eastern Oregon in the home opener on Friday, winning by a score of 4-2.
The Nighthawks outshot the Mountaineers 17-10, including 9-3 on goal, and held possession for the majority of the game.Â
Lukas Juodkunaitis got things started early, putting through a pass from
Max Hartley to put NNU up 1-0 in just the 10th minute of action. Eastern Oregon would tie things up 15 minutes later, however, getting free deep in NNU territory for a breakaway opportunity.
The Nighthawks would take back the lead just before halftime, though, as
Jake Levine scored his third goal of the season in the 41st minute. NNU would then score the next two goals to build a comfortable lead, with
Lorenzo Valentini cleaning up a loose ball in the box before
Cameron Natvig blasted home a great pass from Juodkunaitis to give the Nighthawks a 4-1 lead with just over 20 minutes to play.
With the win, NNU moves to 2-1 on the year and will now play their first Division II opponent of the season, traveling to Saint Martin's next Thursday and Saturday.
